Short histories of Big surfers

“Da Bull”

The day Phil Edwards referred to Greg Noll as “The Bull” stuck and has since been engrained in surfing history. Noll is a massive guy, not only in stature but likwise in personality. Loud minimizes the sort of presence that he brings to the world.

Still, no one has charged the face of a wave the way the Bull did back in the 60’s. Surfing has gotten more flashy and the best surfers today are a lot smaller. Staring down a massive wave is usually met on the end of a tow-in line these days.

There was something special about charging that wave with a massive handmade board. No towing, no leash, and seemingly no fear. It makes a person wonder if there are still those giant people with bigger personalities out there.

Could there be another Bull out there? An undiscovered behemoth of a dude cutting the tide and paddling into the unimaginable. Follow as we delve deeper into big personalities of surfing.
